You can assign one picture in the cartography plugin. But wouldn't be displayed on the asset list, just in the map.

Also afaik V 9.3 support front and back pictures for Rack Mounted devices (not sure about this).

Did they support inventory via fusion inventory?

You can use the genericobject plugin. But you can't move assets from or to there from the default categories.
